South Korean super welterweight champion Kim Yong Uk stopped third-ranked Japanese super welterweight Yuta Ashina of Kaneko Boxing Gym in the fourth round in a welterweight nontitle fight in Seoul on Nov. 18 in connection with Phoenix Battle in Seoul promoted by Ohashi Boxing Gym.
The technical knockout of the scheduled 10-rounder held in the capital city’s Gangnam District came 2 minutes and 5 seconds into the round. With the win, the 27-year-old Kim extended his unbeaten streak to six, including five KOs. The 29-year-old Ashina fell to an 8-6 win-loss tally.
The bout was held as the chief supporting card for the vacant World Boxing Organization’s Asia-Pacific super middleweight title fight between Yun Deok No of South Korea and Tej Pratap Singh of Australia, in which Yun battered Singh into submission in the sixth round and became the nation’s first WBO Asia-Pacific champion.
