Kazuki Anaguchi of Shinsei Boxing Gym died at a Tokyo hospital on the evening of Feb. 2 as he had been in a coma due to subdural hematoma on the right side following his close decision loss in the Japanese bantamweight title fight on last Dec. 26, Japan Boxing Commission said the same day. He was 23.
Anaguchi, ranked third in the Japanese bantamweight at that time, suffered four knockdowns in the 10-round title fight with champion Seiya Tsutsumi of Kadoebi Boxing Gym in a hard-fought battle at Tokyo’s Ariake Arena.
Anaguchi lost consciousness after getting off the ring, was immediately sent to a hospital and took an emergency operation for the treatment. He died without regaining consciousness at 5:38 p.m., according to the commission.
In the fight, dubbed ‘’Bantamweight Monster Tournament Finals,’’ Anaguchi fought neck and neck with Tsutsumi despite his suffering four knockdowns in the process.
Anaguchi, who had 76 amateur bouts, had a professional record of six wins, including two KOs, against a loss.
