Japan Boxing Commission said on Feb. 26 at its ethics committee it will approve the license to fight in Japan for World Boxing Council’s top-ranked super bantamweight Luis Nery of Mexico, which would pave the way for the 29-year-old Nery to fight with undisputed world super bantamweight champion Naoya ‘’The Monster’’ Inoue of Ohashi Boxing Gym.

  In August 2017, Nery stopped WBC bantamweight champion Shinsuke Yamanaka of Teiken Boxing Gym to become the champion, although Nery later tested positive for a banned substance. The WBC then ordered their rematch.

  JBC issued a shutdown order to Nery when he failed to make the bantamweight limit in their rematch in March 2018. Though Nery beat Yamanaka in the fight, the title was left vacant.  

  Nery and his manager sent a letter of apology to JBC for having failed to make weight in his fight in 2018 while asking JBC to resurrect Nery’s banned license. JBC decided to recover his license in Japan.

  The WBC sees to it that it will strictly monitor Nery’s weight 30 days, 15 days and seven days before a fight in Japan while promising to conduct random testing by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA).

  Nery, who has a record of 35 wins, including 27 knockouts, beat Azat Hovhannisyan of Armenia in their WBC final super bantamweight eliminator in February last year.

  Rumors are around that Inoue would fight with Nery around May at Tokyo Dome.
