Former World Boxing Organization minimumweight champion Ryuya Yamanaka of Shinsei Boxing Gym knocked out Puriwat Taosuwan of Thailand in the second round in a flyweight nontitle bout in Osaka on June 23.
The knockout of the scheduled eight-rounder at EDION Arena Osaka’s annex came 1 minute and 6 seconds into the round when the 29-year-old Yamanaka landed a devastating left hook to the body, sending his 21-year-old opponent down for the count.
With the win, Yamanaka, who came back from his technical knockout loss to Jayson Vayson of the Philippines last December in his unsuccessful defense of the WBO’s Asia-Pacific light flyweight title, improved his record to 20 wins, including seven KOs, against four losses. Puriwat fell to a 5-5 tally with three KOs.
