‘Monster’ Inoue might face Casimero in Japan in bantamweight showdown

Jul 02, 2020 15:44 pm

World Boxing Association ‘’super’’ and International Boxing Federation bantamweight champion Naoya ‘’Monster’’ Inoue might face World Boxing Organization bantamweight ruler John Riel Casimero of the Philippines sometime late this year in Japan instead of the United States given the rapid spread of the novel coronavirus in the U.S., Inoue’s manager Hideyuki Ohashi said July 1.

While the 12-round title match had been scheduled to be held in Las Vegas, NV on April 25, the fight has been postponed time and time again due to the persistent COVID-19 in the world.

Ohashi said, ‘’While nothing definite has been decided yet, the fight could be held in Japan as a drastically closed-door event at a place that could house more than 10,000 spectators.’’
‘’Considering the current degree of COVID-19 in the U.S., I don’t think the oft-delayed match can be held even in August or September (in the U.S.), Ohashi said, hinting that anything can be possible.

The 27-year-old Inoue, the winner of the World Boxing Super Series, is undefeated in his 19 bouts, including 16 knockouts, while Casimero, 31, has a 29-4 win-loss record, including 20 Kos.
