World Boxing Organization world female atomweight champion Mika Iwakawa will make the first defense of the title against former Japanese atomweight ruler Nanae Suzuki in Kobe, western Japan, on Sept. 26, Iwakawa’s Takasago Gym said on Aug. 6.
While the two were scheduled to clash in March, the match has been postponed due to the spread of the novel coronavirus. The scheduled 10-rounder will be held at the Kobe Central Gymnasium.
The 37-year-old Iwakawa wrested the title from her compatriot Nao Ikeyama in July 2018 and won a nontitle bout in December 2019. She has a record of nine wins, three by knockout, against five losses and a draw.
For her part, Suzuki, 28, has a 10-3-1 win-loss-draw record with one KO.
