Ex-OPBF champ Nakatani to fight Puerto Rican in Las Vegas on Dec. 12

Former Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation lightweight champion Masayoshi Nakatani of Ioka Boxing Gym will fight Felix Verdejo of Puerto Rico on Dec. 12 in Las Vegas, Nevada, Top Rank Inc. said on Nov. 15.

While the 31-year-old Nakatani, who successfully defended the OPBF crown 11 times, once announced his retirement from boxing when he was decisioned by Teofimo Lopez of the United States in July last year for a bout to decide a challenger for the International Boxing Federation lightweight title, he has retracted the decision to fight Verdejo.

The fight will be held at the MGM Grand Conference Center. Nakatani has a record of 18 wins, 12 by knockout, against a loss, while the 27-year-old Verdejo, ranked fifth by the IBF and 14th by the World Boxing Council, has a 27-1 win-loss record with 17 KOs.

Former World Boxing Organization featherweight rule Shakur Stevenson will face fellow American Toka Kahn Clary as the main event of the evening. Hard-hitting super middleweight Edgar Berlanga of the U.S. will also fight an opponent yet to be name.
