Former World Boxing Association minimumweight champion Ryo Miyazaki of 3150 (Saiko) Fight Club, who returned to the ring for the first time in five years and four months last December with a victory, will next face fifth-ranked Japanese minimumweight Takumi Sakae of Orio Boxing Gym in late April in a fight in which the winner will get a prize of 1 million yen (about 8,651 dollars), the Saiko club said on Feb. 9.
According to the Osaka-based club, the 33-year-old Miyazaki, who stopped Takayuki Teraji of Missile Kudo Boxing Gym in the third round of the scheduled six-rounder in his December fight, will take on Sakae in a flyweight eight-rounder in Osaka. Neither the exact date nor the fight venue has been decided yet.
If Sakae, 28, wins, he will get the million-yen bonus in addition to his purse of 600,000 yen (some 5,190 dollars). But if Miyazaki wins by knockout, it will be he who will get the 1 million yen.
Saiko club head Koki Kameda had a hard time having Miyazaki’s second fight with a boxer from abroad due to the current COVID-19 confusion. It was under such circumstances that the club asked for interested boxers to have the eight-round fight with Miyazaki by doubling commonly-paid purse of 300,000 yen in addition to the idea of a million-yen bonus.
While five boxers applied for the fight with Miyazaki, all the parties concerned discussed the matter and settled on Sakae, who has a record of 21 wins, including 16 KOs, against four losses and a draw. He unsuccessfully took a crack at the Japanese minimumweight title then held by Tatsuya Fukuhara of Honda Fitness Boxing Gym in 2016. Sakae was also all-Japan rookie king championship winner in the minimumweight in 2013.
