Third-ranked Japanese female featherweight Kimika Miyoshi of Kawasaki Nitta Boxing Gym pounded out a six-round unanimous decision over Yoshie Wakasa of Hanagata Boxing Gym and recaptured the title on Feb. 14 at Tokyo’s Korakuen Hall.
It was their ‘’direct rematch’’ in about a year and three months. In their first encounter, Wakasa, 33, wrested the title from Miyoshi, 38, with a unanimous decision.
While there were no knockdowns throughout the fight, both fighters exchanged blows without a letup late in the bout. All the three judges scored the fight 58-56 in favor of Miyoshi.
After the fight, Miyoshi said, ‘’Though Ms. Wakasa’s punches were hard and strong, I showed everything I have in my arsenals. I know I have a lot of technical problems, I hope I can take a crack at a world title someday by convincing myself that I can do it.’’
With the victory, Miyoshi improved her record to 16 wins, including six knockouts, against 13 losses and a draw. For her part, Wakasa fell to a 7-3 win-loss tally with two KOs.
