Nonaka beats Thai in super middleweight eight-rounder, becoming oldest Japanese to win

Sep 18, 2023 13:02 pm

Top-ranked Japanese super middleweight Yuki Nonaka of Mitsuki Boxing Gym pounded out a shutout eight-round decision over the World Boxing Organization’s 14th-ranked Asia-Pacific light heavyweight Thoedsak Sinam of Thailand on Sept. 17 in Osaka, becoming the oldest Japanese to win a bout.

Nonaka (R) wins in comeback fight

Nonaka, who is 45 years and nine months old, surpassed the previous record held by Hiroaki Yokota of Yokota Sport and Boxing Gym, who won a lightweight eight-rounder at the age of 45 years and seven months in 2007.

Fighting at Sakai City Industrial Promotion Center, the left-handed Nonaka did not allow even a point throughout the fight. With the win, Nonaka improved his record to 36 wins, including 10 knockouts, against 12 losses and three draws. Thoedsak fell to a 21-11 win-loss tally with 16 KOs.

Nonaka returned to the ring after he dropped a 10round decision to Koki Tyson of Ichiriki Boxing Gym in this past June. He said he hops to fight again in December.
