WBA President Mendoza sends message to Murata, commending his braveness in Apr. 9 fight

Apr 13, 2022 11:34 am

World Boxing Association President Gilberto Mendoza sent a letter on Apr. 12 to laud former World Boxing Association middleweight ‘’super’’ champion Ryota Murata of Teiken Boxing Gym for his ‘’brave effort’’ against International Boxing Federation middleweight champion Gennadiy Gennadyevich Golovkin of Kazakhstan in the Apr. 9 title unification fight in Tokyo, in which Murata was stopped in the ninth round, according to the gym.

The letter said, ‘’I would like to extend my most sincere commendation for your braveness, experience and power in the Saturday fight with Gennadiy Golovkin (better known as GGG), which impressed the world over.’’

He continued by saying, ‘’You are a warrior and gentleman at the same time, and you proved these in the ring. Please remember the fact that many other great boxers like Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson fell but got up and kept fighting. That’s life. Our ability to overcome the defeat per se makes us grow further.’’

‘’Though you lost to the great boxer, I am convinced that you are equipped with strength and determination you can cope with in various parts of your life. I am sure you will fight your way back into the ring by becoming a stronger boxer in various forms.’’
