Nigerian Ridwan Oyekola pounded out an eight-round unanimous decision over Hikaru Fukunaga of Okinawa World Ring Boxing Gym in a super featherweight nontitle bout on Oct. 2 in Uruma in Japan’s southernmost prefecture of Okinawa.

It was the 25-year-old Oyekola’s second straight victory in Japan as he decisioned Daisuke Watanabe of Watanabe Boxing Gym in Sapporo in Japan’s northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido on Sept. 4.

In the fight with Fukunaga at the Ishikawa Multi-Purpose Hall, Oyekola, who is now fighting out of Okinawa’s Hiranaka Boxing School Gym, showed his technique throughout the fight although there were no knockdowns in the fight.

With the victory, Oyekola now has a record of 10 wins, including five knockouts, against a loss and a draw. For his part, the 23-year-old Fukunaga fell to a 9-4 win-loss tally with six KOs.

Nigerian-born television personality Bobby Ologun brought Oyekola to Japan as he served as a cornerman for the day’s fight.

Hiranaka gym head Nobuaki Hiranaka said, ‘’We will aim at having him ranked in the Japanese division so that he can take a crack at the title.’’
