Former World Boxing Council flyweight champion Daigo Higa of Shisei Boxing Gym knocked out World Boxing Association’s third-ranked super flyweight Sirichai Thaiyen of Thailand in the fourth round in a bantamweight nontitle bout on June 24 in Tokyo.

The end of the scheduled 10-rounder at Ota City General Gymnasium came 1 minute and 34 seconds into the round with a powerful right hook to the body. Sirichai, 32, crouched on the canvas and could not stand up as the referee’s count tolled 10.

The 27-year-old Higa scored two knockdowns in the second round with powerful body shots and added one more knockdown in the third round with a straight right to the body, setting the stage for his knockout in the following round.

The fight was held as the chief supporting card for the World Boxing Association super flyweight title match.

With the victory, Higa improved his record to 20 wins, including 18 KOs, against two losses and a draw. Sirichai fell to a 65-5 win-loss tally with 43 KOs.
