Murachi decisions Berondo, captures vacant WBO’s Asia-Pacific super flyweight title

Fourth-ranked World Boxing Organization’s Asia-Pacific super flyweight Tsubasa Murachi of Surugadanji Boxing Gym pounded out a 12-round unanimous decision over seventh-ranked Wilbert Berondo of the Philippines to capture the vacant title on Oct. 30 in Shizuoka Prefecture, central Japan.
The title was left vacant by Kosei Tanaka of Soul Box Hatanaka Boxing Gym soon after he captured the title in June this year.

The 25-year-old Murachi, who failed in his first attempt at the title three years ago, outboxed his 26-year-old opponent throughout the fight held at FujisanMesse at the foot of Mt. Fuji.

While there were no knockdowns in the fight, Murachi evaded Berondo’s onslaught in the seventh round and controlled the fight all the way with his straight rights. All the three judges had Murachi ahead by six to eight points at the end of the fight.

Murachi became the first champion of the gym, which was launched 12 years ago. He said after the fight, ‘’Now I was able to return the favor to the head of the gym (Masaaki Maejima).

With the victory, Murachi improved his record to nine wins, including three knockouts, against a loss and a draw. Berondo fell to a 16-6-2 win-loss-draw tally with six KOs.
