Hard hitting Sasaki, Obara to face in WBO’s Asia-Pacific welterweight clash on Apr. 8

The World Boxing Organization’s Asia-Pacific welterweight champion Jin Sasaki of Hachioji Nakaya Boxing Gym will take on Japanese welterweight kingpin Keita Obara of Misako Boxing Gym on Apr. 8 at Tokyo’s Ariake Arena, organizers said on Feb. 13.

The fight is part of the ‘’Prime Video Presents Live Boxing No. 4,’’ which will be televised live along with several other big matches.

While the 36-year-old Obara has had various regional titles, only Sasaki’s WBO Asia-Pacific title will be at stake this time.

Speaking before a group of reporters at a hotel in Tokyo, Obara said, ‘’I will nip the young boxer in the bud as in the past. I tried to continue my boxing of seeking knockout victories in my past 31 fights, and it will be the same in my 32nd fight.’’

Sasaki came into the limelight by stopping Ryota Toyoshima of Teiken Boxing Gym in the opening round last month.

The 21-year-old Sasaki told reporters, ‘’My name is Jin Sasaki who will become Japan’s first world welterweight champion. I promise I will show a devastating fight. The fight is a ticket to a world title fight.’’

Obara has a record of 26 wins, including 23 KOs, against four losses and a draw, while Sasaki has a 14-1-1 win-loss-draw tally with 13 KOs.
