Loreto wins vacant Japan female minimumweight title by decisioning Ichimura

Apr 10, 2023 9:53 am

Top-ranked Marina Loreto of Esperanza Boxing Gym scored a knockdown in the fourth round and went on to win the vacant Japanese female minimumweight title with a six-round unanimous decision over fifth-ranked Sarasa Ichimura of Mitsuki Boxing Gymin in Osaka Prefecture on Apr. 9.

The title was left vacant by Nanako Suzuki of Misako Boxing Gym last September.
Fighting at 176BOX gymnasium in the prefectural city of Toyonaka, the 32-year-old Loreto piled up points earlier in the fight and landed a counter right to the 27-year-old Ichimura in the fourth round, sending the latter to the canvas face-first.

While Ichimura struggled to her feet to beat the referee’s count, she could not catch up with Loreto’s speedy boxing for the remainder of the fight.

With the victory, the undefeated Loreto, whose husband is a former top-notch Philippine light flyweight Rey Loreto, improved her record to five wins and a draw. For her part, Ichimura sagged to a 4-11-1 win-loss-draw tally.
