Kano draws with Kameyama to retain WBO Asia-Pacific flyweight title in Osaka

Apr 17, 2023 21:24 pm

Champion Riku Kano of Taisei Boxing Gym and 10th-ranked challenger Daiki Kameyama of Watanabe Boxing Gym fought to a 12-round split draw in the World Boxing Organization’s Asia-Pacific flyweight title fight at EDION Arena Osaka’s annex in Osaka on Apr. 16.

It was the 25-year-old Kano’s first successful defense of the title he won last September at the same place. Kano was a former WBO’s Asia-Pacific light flyweight champion.

While there were no knockdowns throughout the fight, both exchanged fierce blows all the way.
With the draw, the left-handed Kano has a record of 20 wins, including 10 knockouts, against four losses and two draws, while the 26-year-old Kameyama, also a southpaw, now has a 10-5-2 win-loss-draw tally with three KOs.
