Nakatani enters Las Vegas to vie for vacant WBO world super flyweight title

May 17, 2023 22:20 pm

Top-ranked World Boxing Organization super flyweight Junto Nakatani of M.T Boxing Gym entered Las Vegas Nevada on May 16 local time to vie for the vacant WBO world super flyweight title on May 20 (21 Japan time) with second-ranked Andrew Moloney of Australia at the MGA Grand Garden Arena in Vegas.

The 25-year-old Nakatani, a former WBO world flyweight champion, sent a message by way of the gym, ‘’I felt uplifted when I watched the MGM Grand. I will continue to concentrate on my training in Las Vegas.’’ Nakatani arrived in Las Vegas from Los Angeles by car together with American trainer Rudy Hernandez and his entourage.

The 32-year-old Moloney has already arrived in Las Vegas and is said to be revved up as his twin brother Jason Moloney won the vacant WBO bantamweight title on May 13.

The left-handed Nakatani, who vacated the WBO flyweight title last October to move up to the super flyweight division, is undefeated in his 24 bouts, including 18 knockouts. For his part, Moloney has a 25-2 win-loss tally with 16 KOs. He has one no-contest.

The fight served as the chief supporting card for the undisputed world lightweight title match between Devin Haney of the U.S. and Vasyl Lomachenko of Ukraine.
