Three weeks have elapsed since the undisputed world super-bantamweight title bout at the Tokyo Dome on 2 May, yet the resonance of the contest remains strong. In Aoyama, Tokyo, a large mural featuring three-weight world champion Junto Nakatani continues to draw the attention of passers-by at “Tokyo Mural Square” on the wall of the Gaienmae Intersection Building. The artwork was produced by the mural art company OVER ALLs, led by representative Taketo Akazawa, with artist Yuki Yamamoto utilizing spray paint to execute the piece. The work, which captures the memory of the fierce contest, is scheduled to conclude its exhibition between late May and early June.

The artwork is titled Challenger. Despite suffering his first professional defeat against Inoue, Nakatani’s reputation remains undiminished. The narrative of whether he can leverage this setback to ascend to the pinnacle of the sport once more has already commenced, marking the beginning of the second chapter of his career. Adorned with his own signature, the mural has become a definitive symbol of a true challenger.
