Ex-amateur bantamweight champ Murata stops Nicaraguan in Vegas, extending winning streak to 5

Jul 29, 2023 14:30 pm

Former All-Japan amateur bantamweight champion Subaru Murata of Teiken Boxing Gym stopped Juan Centeno of Nicaragua at the end of the third round of a scheduled six-round super bantamweight fight on July 28 (29 Japan time) at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The left-handed Murata scored a knockdown in the second round with a left uppercut for a mandatory eight count and went on to land effective punches to his opponent in the third, which prompted Centeno’s cornerman to lodge a retirement from the fight during the interval after the third round.

It was the 26-year-old Murata’s fiive straight KO victory ever since turning pro in June 2021 and his third victory in the United States.

The fight was part of the Top Rank Inc.-promoted event. Centeno, 29, fell to an 8-9-3 win-loss-draw record with one KO.
