Takada decisions Mori, retains Japan minimumweight title for his 2nd time

Nov 28, 2023 11:31 am

Yuni Takada of Lions Boxing Gym scored a knockdown in the sixth round and went on to earn a 10-round unanimous decision over Katsuki Mori of Ohashi Boxing Gym on Nov. 27 in Tokyo.

Takada scores knockdown in 6th round

It was the 25-year-old Takada’s second successful defense of the title he captured in this past April. It was also the second time for Takada to beat Mori as he stopped Mori in the fifth round in November last year in a nontitle bout.

Fighting at Korakuen Hall, Takada got off to a good start by landing his punches to the head and body. Takada put his 23-year-old opponent on the seat of his pants with a right uppercut in the sixth stanza. But Mori struggled to his feet to beat the referee’s count and survived the round.

Aware he is behind on points, Mori showed everything he had in his arsenal in the eighth and ninth rounds. But Takada managed to fend off Mori’s offense.

With the victory, Takada, ranked fourth in the world minimumweight rankings by the World Boxing Association, improved his record to 13 wins, including six knockouts, against eight losses and three draws. Mori fell to an 11-3 win-loss tally with two KOs.
