Tsutsumi scores TKO over WBA’s 15th-ranked featherweight Ventura in 3rd in nontitle bout

Jan 01, 2024 13:15 pm

Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation featherweight champion Hayato Tsutsumi of Shisei Boxing Gym attained the first knockout victory since turning pro in July 2022 as he stopped the World Boxing Association’s 15th-ranked Luis Moncion Ventura of Dominican Republic in the third round in Tokyo on Dec. 31.

Tsutsumi shows power in fight

The technical knockout of the scheduled featherweight 10-rounder at Ota City General Gymnasium came 2 minutes and 14 seconds into the round when the 24-year-old Tsutsumi scored two knockdowns in the round, once with a counter left to the head and the other with a right hook, also to the head, prompting the referee to call off the fight without bothering to count.

The day’s fight was held as one of the undercards of the World Boxing Association super flyweight title fight.

While there were originally scheduled to fight last October, the fight was postponed as Tsutsumi was found to be suffering from the flue immediately before their fight.

With the victory, Tsutsumi extended his unbeaten streak to four, one by KO, while the previously undefeated Ventura, 25, fell to an 11-1 win-loss record with nine KOs.
