JBC creates commission to investigate death of Anaguchi after last Dec. bout

Mar 12, 2024 23:38 pm

Japan Boxing Commission said on March 12 it created an investigation commission on the death last month of Kazuki Anaguchi of Shinsei Boxing Gym following his loss in the Japanese bantamweight title fight last December in Tokyo.

The commission is made up of seven people from such categories as medicine, the press, an official (officials) concerned about boxing bouts and JBC with a lawyer serving as the commission’s head.

The commission will hold the first meeting on March 15 and is expected to compile a report by Apr. 15 by listening to them so as to avoid a similar accident and will submit it to JBC, which is expected to consider revising rules.

Anaguchi, ranked third in the Japanese bantamweight at that time, suffered four knockdowns in the 10-round fight with then champion Seiya Tsutsumi of Kadoebi Boxing Gym in a hard-fought battle at Tokyo’s Ariake Arena on Dec. 26.

Anaguchi lost consciousness after getting off the ring and was immediately sent to a hospital and took an emergency operation for the treatment of acute subdural hematoma. He died without regaining consciousness on Feb. 2.
