Yoshino returns to ring by decking Philippine lightweight Victoriano in 2nd

Jun 18, 2024 9:42 am

Former world-ranked lightweight Shuichiro Yoshino of Misako Boxing Gym returned to the ring for the first time in a year and two months as he demolished Jules Victoriano of the Philippines in the second round on June 17 in Tokyo.

Yoshino ends fight in 2nd round

The technical knockout of the scheduled eight-rounder at Korakuen Hall came 2 minutes and 52 seconds into the round when the 32-year-old Yoshino decked Victoriano, currently ranked third in the Philippine lightweight division, three times in the round with right hooks to the head to end the fight.

Yoshino was stopped in April 2023 by Stevenson in the sixth round in an elimination bout for the World Boxing Council lightweight championship bout.

With the victory, Yoshino, who once held the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation lightweight, World Boxing Organization’s Asia-Pacific lightweight and Japanese lightweight titles at the same time, improved his record to 17 wins, including 13 KOs, against a loss. The 26-year-old Victoriano fell to a 13-8 win-loss tally with 10 KOs.
