Ex-world champ Ito’s illness puts off fight with Mishiro until Dec. 26

Sep 30, 2020 17:31 pm

The scheduled 10-round lightweight nontitle bout between former World Boxing Organization super featherweight champion Masayuki Ito of Yokohama Hikari Boxing Gym and undefeated Oriental-Pacific Boxing Federation super featherweight kingpin Hironori Mishiro of Watanabe Boxing Gym at the Sumida City Gymnasium in Tokyo will be postponed until Dec. 26 from the originally scheduled Nov. 5 due to Ito’s acute disease, organizers said on Sept. 29.

According to A-SIGN BOXING Com., a crowd-funding platform via YouTube operated by the Yokohama Hikari, although the details of Ito’s illness were not announced, planned undercard bouts, including those concerned with the gym — the 10th-ranked WBO super bantamweight Ryo Akaho and Shoki Sakai who fought almost all of his bouts in Mexico — were also put off until Dec. 26.

Further, the scheduled boxing event on Dec. 19 at Tokyo’s Shinjuku Face also organized by A-SIGN BOXING will be brought forward to Nov. 23.
