Jul 29, 2021 14:18 pm

Japan’s Yuito Moriwaki was overwhelmed throughout by Oleksandr Khyzhniak of Ukraine and suffered a 0-5 decision in the second-round preliminary competition of the men’s middleweight bout at the Tokyo Olympics on July 29.

Boxing at the Ryogoku Kokugikan Sumo Arena, the 25-year-old Khyzhniak, who had 120 matches going into the day’s bout compared with Moriwaki’s only 14, swarmed all over Moriwaki, 25, from the opening bell by landing overhand rights to the head many times.

Khyzhniak, the 2017 world championships winner, did not let up on his offense in the second round by connecting with left-right combinations to the head and body, and this pattern continued in the third and final round. Moriwaki, who earned a close decision over an Iranian boxer in the first round on July 26, could not land effective blows before his opponent’s aggressing boxing.
