Jan 09, 2022 10:50 am

Last year’s Tokyo Olympics women’s featherweight gold medalist Sena Irie of Nippon Sport Science University, popularly abbreviated as Nittaidai, reiterated on Jan. 8 her intention to quit boxing at the end of her college days.

The 21-year-old Irie, currently the third-year-student at the university, said as a guest speaker for All Japan Women’s Junior Championships in Mie Prefecture, western Japan, that her immediate target is to win the gold medal at the Asian Games in China’s Zhejiang Province this September.

Irie has kept harping on the thing she will hang up her gloves at the end of her college days in March next year to the chagrin of pro boxing officials.
