Yoshiki Takei of Ohashi Boxing Gym, the winner of a former K-1 super bantamweight grand prix, his stablemates, 12th-ranked Japanese flyweight Taku Kuwahara and former amateur star Taiga Imanaga, have been engaged in a joint training camp in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, in preparation for Takei’s challenge to Pete Apolinar of the Philippines for the latter’s Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation super bantamweight title in Tokyo on Aug. 26.
The 26-year-old Takei and the two other boxers have been engaged mainly in training runs under the guidance of Ohashi Gym trainer Akira Yaegashi, a former three-division world champion. Some members of Power of Dream Gym, to which Takei belonged when he was a K-1 fighter, have also joined the camp.
Southpaw Take has four straight knockout wins since turning pro boxer in March last year.
