KBM changes no-contest decision of Casimero-Akaho fight to Casimero’s KO win

Dec 22, 2022 17:07 pm

Korean Boxing Member’s Commission has recently changed its no-contest decision to a knockout victory for John Riel Casimero of the Philippines over World Boxing Organization’s eighth-ranked super bantamweight Ryo Akaho of Yokohama Hikari Boxing Gym in a highly touted super bantamweight 10-round nontitle fight earlier this month in South Korea, its promotion company said on Dec. 21.

According to Treasure Boxing Promotion, while Akaho took an accidental rabbit punch from former WBO bantamweight champion Casimero in the second round and failed to continue to fight any further in the Dec. 3 fight in Incheon which resulted in the local commission having declared the fight no contest, Akaho himself later admitted in his social networking service he had been hurt by Casimero’s proper punches.

Immediately before that incident, Akaho scored a light knockdown over Casimero, who suddenly swarmed all over Akaho before the rabbit-punch incident.

Putting everything in a proper perspective, KBM declared Casimero’s KO victory, according to the promotion.

With the change, the 33-year-old Casimero now has a record of 32 wins, including 22 KOs, against four losses, while the 36-year-old Akaho sagged to a 39-3-2 win-loss-draw tally with 26 KOs.
