Teraji to fight WBO light flyweight champ Gonzalez for 3rd title unification fight on Apr. 8 in Tokyo

Feb 13, 2023 20:18 pm

World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association light flyweight champion Kenshiro Teraji of B.M.B. Boxing Gym will fight World Boxing Organization champion Jonathan Gonzalez of Puerto Rico in a title unification fight on Apr. 8 at Tokyo’s Ariake Arena, organizers said on Feb. 13.

Amazon Prime Video will televise the fight and other big fights on the day live vis-à-vis its series called ‘’Prime Video Presents Live Boxing No. 4.’’

The 31-year-old Teraji, popularly known as ‘’Kenshiro,’’ told a press conference at a Tokyo hotel, ‘’I want to knock out Gonzales so that I can move on to the fourth and final title unification fight in the division.

True he (Gonzalez) is a versatile type of boxer, But I will try to seize an opportunity and knock him out.’’
Gonzalez earned a unanimous decision over Shokichi Iwata of Teiken Boxing Gym on Nov. 1 last year at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama Prefecture, making his second successful defense of the title. The fight served as the chief supporting card for the title unification fight between Teraji and then WBA light flyweight ‘’super’’ champion Hiroto Kyoguchi of Watanabe Boxing Gym.

Gonzalez sent a video message and said, ‘’I am happy that I can fight Kenshiro, who is regarded as the No. 1 boxer in the division. But I am determined to become the unified champion based on my technique as I aim at winning by decision.’’

Teraji has a record of 20 wins, including 12 KOs, against a loss, whereas the left-handed Gonzalez, 31, has a 27-3-1 win-loss-draw tally with 14 KOs and one no contest.
