Ex-world minimumweight champ Miyazaki stopped in bantamweight nontitle bout

Apr 02, 2023 11:06 am

Former World Boxing Association minimumweight champion Ryo Miyazaki of KWORLD3 Boxing Gym was stopped in the fourth round by Yuto Nakamura of Ichino Boxing Gym in one of the undercards of the 3150Fight Survival Vo.4 event on Apr. 1 in Osaka.

The technical knockout of the scheduled eight-round bantamweight nontitle bout at the annex of EDION Arena Osaka came 2 minutes and 7 seconds into the round when the referee stopped the fight as the 34-year-old Miyazaki was tottering back to the ropes after being knocked down with Nakamura’s devastating straight right to the head.

While Miyazaki dropped Nakamura, ranked 10th in the Japanese super flyweight division, shortly before the end of the second round with an overhand right to the head, the 26-year-old Nakamura managed to survive the round.

With the victory, Nakamura improved his record to 12 wins, including nine KOs, against seven defeats and two draws. For his part, Miyazaki, currently ranked 14th in the Japanese flyweight division, fell to a 26-4-4 win-loss-draw tally with 16 KOs.
