Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation featherweight champion Hayato Tsutsumi of Shisei Boxing Gym said at the gym on Aug. 25 he wants to get a knockout win when he has a 10-round nontitle fight with fifth-ranked Dominican Republic featherweight Luis Moncion Ventura on Oct. 13 at Tokyo’s Korakuen Hall.
While the 24-year-old Tsutsumi won the vacant OPBF title in his third professional bout, the shortest record in Japan, last May, he said what he wants now is to earn a KO victory by all means.
‘’This will be the first time for me to have a fight with a Latin American boxer, and I will consider the fight to be my first test match since I am supposed to face world-ranked boxers in the future. I hope the comping fight will act as a stepping stone in this respect,’’ Tsutsumi said.
Though Ventura is undefeated in his 11 professional bouts, including nine KOs, Tsutsumi said, ‘’He is a kind of an accomplished boxer who comes out strong based on his amateur experience. But I think I have to beat him by knockout. I mean I have to break out of my shell and move forward.’’
After turning pro last year with great fanfare, Tsutsumi has won all of his three bouts. But all the victories came by decision.
Considering the quality of his opponents (all of them were Philippine boxers), it appeared to be inevitable that the fights went the distance. But Tsutsumi thinks differently as he said, ‘’I had to reflect on the way I fought (with them). I think I took the easy way out. But I want to have a knockout victory next time because I am getting used to the professional boxing.’’
Tsutsumi will leave for the United States on Aug. 28 so that he can undergo training with Cuban-born trainer Isamael Salas in Las Vegas, Nevada for a month.
Through the training, Tsutsumi said he wants to get the hang of dealing damage to his opponents through sparring sessions, including when to throw counterpunches.
