Ex-world champ Oguni to face Casimero on Oct. 12 in super bantamweight nontitle fight

  Former International Boxing Federation super bantamweight champion Yukinori Oguni of Kadoebi Boxing Gym will face former World Boxing Organization bantamweight kingpin John Riel Casimero of the Philippines in a super bantamweight 10-round fight on Oct. 12 at Tokyo’s Ariake Arena, organizers said on Aug. 28.

  It will be the first time for Casimero to fight in Japan. Casimero, who also was a former IBF world flyweight and light flyweight champion, is said to be aiming at challenging World Boxing Councial and World Boxing Organization super bantamweight champion Naoya ‘’the Monster’’ Inoue of Ohashi Boxing Gym for the latter’s title.

  The 35-year-old Oguni has a record of 21 wins, including eight knockouts, against two losses and two draws. Casimero, 34, has a record of 33 wins, including 22 KOs, against four defeats.

  According to Treasure Boxing Promotion, Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation bantamweight champion Keita Kurihara of Ichiriki Boxing Gym will defend his title against Casimero’s compatriot and 10th-ranked Froilan Saludar of the Philippines as the chief supporting card.

  The 30-year-old Kurihara has a record of 17 wins, including 15 KOs, against seven losses and a draw, while Saludar, 34, has a 33-7-1 win-loss-draw tally with 23 KOs.
