Bid on promotional rights on Kyoguchi-Bermudez light flyweight title fight called off due to Kyoguchi’s injury

Jan 28, 2022 17:35 pm

The World Boxing Association has said it would not hold a tender on the promotional rights on the fight between ‘’super’’ light flyweight champion Hiroto Kyoguchi of Watanabe Boxing Gym and ‘’regular’’ champion Esteban Bermudez of Mexico, originally scheduled for Jan. 28, due to Kyoguchi’s injury.

The WBA, at the same time, has approved Bermudez’s title defense against former regular champion Carlos Canizales of Venezuela. The reality of the situation surrounding Kyoguchi’s injury has not been declared.

Undefeated Kyoguchi, 28, will face the winner of the Bermudez, 26, and Canizales, 28, according to the WBA, which vowed to reduce the number of ‘’champions’’ last year.

Bermudez captured the title last May by stopping Canizales in the sixth round.
