Highly touted super bantamweight Murata gets hand injury, his Dec.2 fight cancelled

Nov 18, 2023 21:41 pm

World Boxing Association’s 12th-ranked super bantamweight Subaru Murata of Teiken Boxing Gym had to cancel his planned eight-round fight with Carlo Demecillo of the Philippines on Dec. 2 at Tokyo’s Korakuen Hall as he suffered his left-hand injury during practice, the gym said on Nov. 18.

According to Teiken officials, the 27-year-old Murata was diagnosed with an index proximal phalanx avulsion fracture, which is said to require two to three months to heal completely.

The left-handed Murata, a former All-Japan amateur bantamweight champion, has a record of five straight wins, all by knockout, ever since turning pro in June 2021. For his part, Demecillo, also 27, has a 17-8-2 win-loss-draw tally with 10 KOs.
