OPBF bantamweight champ Takuma Inoue abandons title

Mar 28, 2021 10:44 am

Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation bantamweight champion Takuma Inoue of Ohashi Boxing Gym has abandoned his title he captured in January, setting the stage for choosing his next fight more freely, the gym said on March 27.

The 25-year-old Inoue, a younger brother of Naoya ‘’Monster’’ Inoue, captured the OPBF title with a technical decision over Keita Kurihara of Ichiriki Boxing Gym on Jan. 14 but has decided to give up the title without defending it.

Inoue dropped a unanimous decision to WBC bantamweight champion Nordine Oubaali of France in the title unification match on Nov.7 in 2019, and the bout with Kurihara was his first match after the Oubaali fight.

Fourth-ranked Japanese bantamweight Kazuki Nakajima of Ohashi gym and sixth-ranked Kai Chiba of Yokohama Hikari Boxing Gym will vie for the vacant title on May 13 at Tokyo’s Korakuen Hall, according to Ohashi gym.

Main event of the evening will be a battle between OPBF featherweight champion Satoshi Shimizu of Ohashi gym and WBO Asia-Pacific featherweight kingpin Musashi Mori of Yakushiji Boxing & Fitness Gym.
