Former three-division world champion Jorge Linares of Venezuela tipped the scales at the lightweight class limit of 135 pounds while World Boxing Council silver lightweight champion Zaur Abdullaev of Russia weighed in at 134.25 pounds in official weigh-ins held on the eve of the Feb. 19 fight in Russia’s Ekaterinburg.

It will be the 36-year-old Linares’ first fight since losing to undefeated WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney of the United States last May in Las Vegas, Nevada, for the latter’s title.

Linares, who has been fighting out of Tokyo’s Teiken Boxing Gym, is currently ranked sixth in the division by the WBC and had been engaged in hard training at the gym by sparring with his stablemate Masayoshi Nakatani and others before leaving Japan on Feb. 12.

While the fight will take the form of the 27-year-old Abdullaev’s defense of his silver lightweight crown, the winner is expected to take a crack at Haney’s lightweight title, according to boxing sources.

Linares has a record of 47 wins, including 29 knockouts, against six losses, while Abdullaev has a 14-1 win-loss record with eight KOs.

The scheduled 12-rounder will be held at Ekaterinburg’s RCC Boxing Academy.
