Undefeated Andy Hiraoka of Ohashi Boxing Gym, uncorking a tremendous left hook, stopped the 11th-ranked challenger Jung Min Ho of South Korea in the eighth round to retain his World Boxing Organization’s Asia-Pacific super lightweight title on Dec. 13 in Tokyo.
It was Hiraoka’s fourth successful defense of the title he captured in October last year by stopping Jin Sasaki of Hachioji Nakaya Boxing Gym for the vacant title.
The technical knockout of the scheduled 12-rounder at Ariake Arena came 2 minutes and 6 seconds into the round when left-handed Hiraoka connected with a sharp left hook to the head, sending Jung spinning down for his second knockdown in the round, which prompted the referee to call of the fight.
Immediately before, the 26-year-old Hiraoka decked Jung with a devastating left uppercut for the first knockdown.
After the fight, Hiraoka said, ‘’I fought four times this year. I have been training because I want to fight abroad (the United States) again. So, please cheer me up.’’
With the victory, Hiraoka extended his unbeaten streak to 22, including 17 KOs, while the 29-year-old Jung impaired to 13-4-2 win-loss-draw tally with three KOs.
The fight served as the chief supporting card of the undisputed world bantamweight title match between Naoya ‘’Monster’’ Inoue of Ohashi gym and Paul Butler of Britain.
