Yoshikawa decisions Guro to win vacant WBO Asia-Pacific female minimumweight title

Riyuna Yoshikawa of Diamante Boxing Gym, displaying her superior speed all the way, earned a unanimous eight-round decision over Norj Guro of the Philippines and captured the vacant World Boxing Organization’s Asia-Pacific female minimumweight title on Nov. 27 in Osaka Prefecture
Fighting at Sophia Sakai of the prefecture’s Sakai, the 21-year-old Yoshikawa, ranked third in the Japanese minimumweight division, outboxed her southpaw opponent by moving side-to-side while occasionally landing left uppercuts and straight rights to the body and ended the fight on top.

With the victory, Yoshikawa improved her record to five wins, including a knockout, against a loss and a draw. With the defeat, the 32-year-old Guro, ranked third in the World Boxing Council’s atomweight division fell to a 12-8-1 win-loss-draw tally with four KOs.

After the fight, Yoshikawa was raised high by the local cheerleading squad.
