Japan’s fourth-ranked light flyweight Kyosuke Takami of Teiken Boxing Gym pounded out a unanimous decision over highly touted minimumweight Lito Dante of the Philippines in an eight-round bout fought at the catchweight of 49.44 kg (109 lbs.) on Dec. 2 in Tokyo.

Takami (R) beats formidable opponent

While there were no knockdowns in the fight at Korakuen Hall, the 21-year-old Takami, who was a former high-school amateur star, landed a left-and-right combinations to the head and body while moving side-to-side quickly and ended the fight on top.

Two of the three judges scored the fight 80-72 and the remaining judge saw it 79-73 all in favor of Takami.

With the win, Takami extended his unbeaten streak since turning pro in July last year to five, including four knockouts. For his part, the 33-year-old Dante, ranked fourth in the World Boxing Council’s minimumweight rankings, fell to a 21-12-4 win-loss-draw tally with 12 KOs.

The fight was held as one of the undercards for the Japanese welterweight championship bout between champion Shoki Sakai of Yokohama Hikari Boxing Gym and Seeser Minagawa of Hiranaka Boxing School Gym.
