All the Teiken Gym boxers and staff had negative test results for COVID-19, the novel coronavirus, after taking polymerase chain reaction rests after the gym’s former three-time world champion Jorge Linares of Venezuela was recently found to be infected with COVID-19, Teiken said on Aug. 11 on its Web site.
The 34-year-old Linares tested positive via a PCR test he took on Aug. 4 as he was scheduled to face former two-division world champion Javier Fortuna of the Dominican Republic on Aug. 28 in the U.S.
Although Linares so far has had no symptoms, he is now taking a 10-day retreat, and the Tokyo-based gym has been closed until it gets the green light from the local healthcare center.
