Jun 12, 2021 19:49 pm

World Boxing Association female flyweight champion Naoko Fujioka of Shinji Takehara and Takanori Hatakeyama Boxer Fitness Gym said in a press conference held online on June 11 she will defend her title on July 9 (July 10 Japan time) in the United States against Sulem Urbina of Mexico.

The scheduled 10-rounder will be held at the Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles, California.
It will be the 45-year-old Fujioka’s first fight in the U.S. and also her first bout since drawing with Tenkai Tsunami of Yamaki Boxing Gym in July 2019 to retain the title for the third time.

‘’I am happy since I have always wanted to fight in the U.S. ever since I made a debut (in September 2009). I am better than what I was two years ago, ‘’ said Fujioka who had captured world titles in five different weight divisions, becoming Japan’s first ever five-division world champion.

Fujioka has a record of 18 wins, including seven knockouts, against two losses and a draw, while the 30-year-old Urbina has a 12-1 win-loss tally with two KOs.

On one of the undercards will be Fujioka’s rival and World Boxing Organization female light flyweight champion Tsunami defending her title against Seneisa Estrada of the U.S. It will be the 36-year-old Tsunami’s fourth defense of the title.
