World Boxing Association ‘’super’’ and International Boxing Federation bantamweight champion Naoya ‘’Monster’’ Inoue of Ohashi Boxing Gym tipped the scales at the class limit of 53.52 kilograms (118 pounds) while the IBF’s No.1-ranked Michael Dasmarinas of the Philippines weighed in at 53.25 kgs (117.4 lbs) on June 18 (June 19 Japan time) at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, Nevada, for their title match to be held at the same place the following day.
The fight will be Inoue’s fifth defense of the WBA title and his third of the IBF crown.
The 28-year-old Inoue received hydration right after the weigh-in and ate ‘’udon’’ noodles made of wheat flour at a nearby condominium-type hotel where he stayed for one week after his arrival at Las Vegas on June 9 local time.
Inoue told reporters, ‘’I can now heave a sigh of relief because I have recovered a little (from his weight reduction program). This is my second time to fight in the United States following last year. I was able to make an adjustment better than last year although I admit I suffered some inconvenience.’’
He quickly added that was within the scope of the assumption and said, ‘’I finished off my training 100 percent. I want to show everything I have in my arsenals so that I can live up to people’s expectations. So, please my fans, you can look forward with great anticipation to watching my good performance.’’
Inoue has 20 straight wins, including 17 knockouts, while Dasmarinas, 28, has a 30-2-1 win-loss-draw record with 20 KOs. The scheduled 12-rounder will take place at The Theater of Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. (Photos: Courtesy of Ohashi Boxing Gym)
