Ex-world champ Higa, 13 other boxers to vie for shortest KO win in Nov. 15 event

Nov 13, 2022 18:26 pm

Shisei Boxing Gym will present 500,000 yen (about $3,600) to a boxer who has knocked out or stopped his opponent at the earliest possible time in the Nov. 15 event dubbed ‘’Life Time Boxing 11 KO Festival’’ at Tokyo’s Korakuen Hall, the gym said on Nov. 12.

In the event, former World Boxing Council flyweight champion Daigo Higa of the gym, who has a Japanese record-tying 15 straight KO victories, will have a 10-round bantamweight nontitle bout with Thailand’s Songsaeng Phoyaem, who has a 18-2 win-loss tally with 12 KOs, as the main event of the day.

Besides, Hard-hitting Jin Sasaki of Hachioji Nakaya Boxing Gym, a third-ranked Japanese welterweight, will face Phatiphan Krungklang of Thailand in an eight-round nontitle bout as the chief supporting card. The 21-year-old Sasaki has a 12-1-1 win-loss-draw tally with 11 KOs

Takuma Takahashi of the Shisei gym will square off with Chaiyarat Sawangsoda of Thailand in a welterweight eight-rounder. The 29-year-old Takahashi is a former top amateur boxer and has a professional record of six straight KOs after turning pro in June 2018.

One more eight-rounder and three six-round bouts are also scheduled for the day.
