Marina Loreto of Esperanza Boxing Gym retained her Japanese female minimumweight title as she fought to a six-round majority draw with top-ranked Sayo Segawa of Watanabe Boxing Gym on Nov. 12 at EDION Arena Osaka’s annex.

Two of the three judges scored the fight even at 57-57 while the third judge saw it 59-55 for Loreto.  It was the 29-year-old Loreto’s first successful defense of the title she captured last April by decisioning Sarasa Ichimura of Mitsuki Boxing Gym for the vacant crown.

There were no knockdowns in the fight. Neither boxer lacked decisive punches throughout the fight.

With the draw, the undefeated Loreto, whose husband is a former top-notch Philippine light flyweight Rey Loreto, now has a record of record to six wins and two draws. For her part, the 26-year-old Segawa has a 1-2-1 win-loss-draw tally with one knockout.
