Undisputed world super bantamweight champion Naoya ‘’The Monster’’ Inoue of Ohashi Boxing Gym will defend his titles against the World Boxing Council’s top-ranked super bantamweight Luis Nery of Mexico on May 6 at Tokyo Dome, the gym said on March 6 at a press conference at Tokyo Dome Hotel.

  Speaking before a group of reporters, the 30-year-old Inoue said, ‘’I am motivated strongly because the upcoming fight will be the first fight since Mike Tyson (of the United States) fought at the dome. I am bracing my nerves since my opponent Nery is a strong opponent. I will accomplish my training hardest in my boxing life. I think the fight with him will be the hottest fight.’’

  The previously unbeaten Tyson was knocked out by James ‘’Buster’’ Douglas of U.S. and failed to retain his undisputed world heavyweight titles in February 1990.

  The Inoue-Nery fight will be held under the banner of ‘’Prime Video Presents Live Boxing 8’’ and will be distributed live in the world, according to the gym.

  The 29-year-old Nery, who was at the conference, said, ‘’I am happy that I was able to come to Japan again. First of all, I want to apologize to Japanese fans and then to Japan Boxing Commission, all the boxers and Teiken `Promotions.’’

  Nery was referring to his two fights with then WBC world bantamweight champion Shinsuke Yamanaka of Teiken Boxing Gym as he was found to have used a banned substance in their first match in 2017 and could not make the bantamweight weight limit in their rematch in 2018, although Nery beat Yamanaka in both fights with technical knockout.

  ‘’Though I betrayed all the persons concerned twice, I am training seriously now by concentrating only on the upcoming fight. I promise I will show a great fight,’’ Nery added.

  Nery apologized in person to Yamanaka, who appeared at the conference, for having ended Yamanaka’s career in a bad way. When Yamanaka asked about Nery’s present weight, Nery responded ‘’60 kgs (132.3 lbs). Yamanaka said, ‘’I expect a good fight.’’

  Last month, JBC approved Nery’s license to fight in Japan which had been banned after his second fight with Yamanaka.

  The WBC will see to it that it will strictly monitor Nery’s weight before his fight while promising to conduct random testing by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association.

   The undefeated Inoue has 26 straight wins, including 23 KOs. The left-handed Nery has a 35-1 win-loss tally with 27 KOs.
