New JBF head Nakama says he will do his best for good of Japan’s amateur boxing

Jul 01, 2024 14:32 pm

Newly elected Japan Boxing Federation President Tatsuya Nakama, who officially assumed the post on June 23 at JBC’s general meeting held on the day, said in Tokyo on June 30 he will do his best to properly operate the federation.

Speaking before a group of reporters, the 43-year-old Nakama, who served as an executive director for JBF President Sadanobu Uchida for two terms after then president Akira Yamane resigned his position as the federation’s head in 2018 as Yamane was accused chiefly of the diversion of subsides, said JBF will continue to contribute to the maintenance of boxing as an Olympic event.

In this connection, Nakama cited the further promotion of boxing based on mass boxing, especially that of women’s boxing, an increase in the number of amateur boxers in general, etc.

Nakama said he will basically take over the task of Uchida but said, ‘’I will do my best for the good of all the amateur boxing fans.’’

Regarding the upcoming Paris Olympics, only two boxers, Sewon Okazawa and Shudai Harada, are qualified for the games from Japan, Nakama said he will visit Paris to see their boxing as he thinks the two are capable of winning even gold medals.
