The planned title fight on Aug. 20 (Aug 21 Japan time) in Dubai of Emirate of Dubai between top-ranked Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov of Tajikistan and third-ranked Kenichi Ogawa of Teiken Boxing Gym for the International Boxing Federation’s vacant super featherweight title was postponed due to Rakhimov’s injury, according to Teiken Promotions Inc.
While they have not yet established a new date for the 12-round fight, it will probably be held in October, the promotions said, adding the 26-year-old Rakhimov’s injured part has not yet been announced.
The title has been left vacant ever since Joseph Diaz of the United States failed to make the division’s weight in his Feb. 13 title defense against Rakhimov,
The 33-year-old Ogawa said through the gym’s website, ‘’He (Rakhimov) got injured. It can’t be helped. The shoe could have been on the other foot. Though I was making a final adjustment and have been in top condition, I will try to be in a top-top shape once again.’’
It will be Ogawa’s first world title fight since he fought Tevin Farmer of the United States in December 2017 for the vacant IBF title, in which the fight was declared no contest due to Ogawa testing positive for Androstanediol.
Ogawa has a record of 25 wins, including 18 knockouts, against a loss and a draw with one no contest. Rakhimov is undefeated in his 16 bouts, including 12 knockouts and a draw.
