The planned Japanese bantamweight title match between top-ranked Kyosuke Sawada of JB Sports Boxing Gym and second-ranked Ikuro Sadatsune of T&T Boxing Gym on Nov. 12 at Tokyo’s Korakuen Hall was called off due to Sadatsune’s poor health, boxing sources said on Nov. 11.

According to the sources, the 24-year-old Sadatsune had to have an emergency hospitalization on Nov. 10 due probably to the failure in his weight-reduction efforts and could not appear at the Nov. 11 weigh-in.

Both boxers fought in July this year to decide the vacant title but ended in a draw due to accidental injuries to their foreheads in the second round at the korakuen Hall.

The title was left vacant in January this year due to the retirement of Yusuke Suzuki of Misako Boxing Gym.

While the 33-year-old Sawada was designated as a challenger in a match to determine the challenger in October 2019, his scheduled bout with Sadatsune in May was postponed until November due to COVID-19.

Sawada is likely to face another boxer for the vacant title since Sadatsune is likely to be suspended for the time being, the sources added.
