Third-ranked Yoshimitsu Kimura of Shisei Boxing Gym stopped second-ranked Kosuke Saka of Nakazato Boxing Gym in the third round and won the vacant Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation super featherweight title on Dec. 14 at Tokyo’s Korakuen Hall.
The technical knockout of the scheduled 10-rounder came 27 seconds into the round when Kimura landed a devastating straight right to the head, forcing the referee to stop the fight to save the apparently groggy Saka, who is the reigning Japanese super featherweight champion.
Kimura decked Saka shortly before the end of second round with a devastating left hook to the head. Saka struggled to his feet and managed to survive the round.
With the victory, the 25-year-old Kimura improved his record to 13 wins, including eight KOs, against two losses and a draw. For his part, the 29-year-old Saka fell to a 21-6 win-loss tally with 18 KOs.
